Ryan J. Laning, CFA

Ryan Laning is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of the AKL Capital.  Mr.  Laning is in charge of the strategy and managerial decisions at AKL Capital.  Mr. Laning has extensive financial industry experience in a career spanning nearly 20 years. He previously served as Head of Equity Trading at Eagle Seven LLC from September 2009 until May 2021. At Eagle Seven, Mr. Laning led a team of traders that were tasked with developing and implementing new quantitative trading strategies in both equity and futures markets. Prior to joining Eagle Seven, Mr. Laning worked at Northern Trust Global Investments Limited, later incorporated into Northern Trust Asset Management Corporation in their investment department from May 2004 until September 2009. He served various roles while at Northern Trust, finishing his tenure as a portfolio manager in their long duration fixed income group overseeing in excess of $10 billion of assets under management.

Mr. Laning holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, which he earned in 2013 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, which he received in 2003.

Mr. Laning has been a CFA Charter holder since 2010.

Amol M. Tripathi, CAIA

Amol Tripathi is the Chief Operating Officer of AKL Capital. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the fund as well as management of vendors and contractors.  Prior to joining AKL Capital, Mr. Tripathi was a Trader at Eagle Seven LLC where he managed junior traders and helped develop quantitative trading strategies. In his time at Eagle Seven Mr. Tripathi gained extensive experience in trading equities as well as commodity, financial, and fixed income futures. Prior to Eagle Seven, Mr. Tripathi served as Director of Operations at EngagementHealth LLC and has also had varied experience in data analytics and client management from previous roles with Truven Health Analytics and Euromonitor International.

Mr. Tripathi holds a Master of Business Administration degree from DePaul University, which he earned with distinction in 2011 and a Bachelor of Art degree in Political Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, which he received in 2004.

Mr. Tripathi has also been a CAIA Charter holder since 2015.

Steven O’Malley

Steven O’Malley is the Director of Operations of AKL Capital.  He is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the back office, ad-hoc project supervision, and vendor relationship management. Mr. O’Malley has extensive business strategy and client engagement experience gained during his 18+ year career with multiple Fortune 500 companies. He also has broad cross-functional experience with legal, finance, IT, corporate development, and investor relations teams. Prior to AKL Capital, Mr. O’Malley served as a Venture Investing Professional at Humana and various roles at Life Time, SUPERVALU, and AutoZone where he worked with internal and external partners to achieve financial and strategic goals.

Mr. O’Malley holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN which he earned in 2012 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign which he received in 2003.
